Statement of Guiding Principles
Personal Historians Network West

All members of Personal Historians Network West (PHNW) agree they will adhere to this statement of PHNW’s Guiding Principles, which affirms the core values of our profession.
To protect the integrity of the profession and safeguard the interests of individual clients and storytellers, all members are expected to:

- Provide clients with the highest quality of service possible.
- Abide by all agreements, both oral and written, with clients and storytellers.
- Represent honestly their qualifications, background, and professional affiliations.
- Act in the best interests of the client, storyteller, and profession, avoiding violations of intellectual property rights (including copyright) and conflicts of interest, activity, or influence.
- Respect clients’ and storytellers’ wishes about privacy, confidentiality, and nondisclosure.
- Respect the right of clients and storytellers to hold values, beliefs, attitudes, and opinions that differ from their own.
- Respect the inherent worth of all persons and their cultural and individual differences, including, but not limited to, those based on age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status.
- Act honorably toward other members of the profession and the field as a whole.

Our members set their own fees and policies. PHNW cannot be held liable for the performance of any of its members.
